The department empowers eight women contractors

During 2019 the department empowered eight women contractors; five originate from the Frances Baard District and three originate from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District. Seven of the eight contractors have since 2019 till now progressed in terms of their cidb-grading. Various road maintenance projects to the value of R10 million were earmarked for the capacitation of women in the construction industry. Unfortunately the department is only able to allocate one project to a contractor per year, but many of the contractors tender for other projects outside the department which enhances their opportunities for growth and development.  Of remarkable interest is the story of Atisa Bokgabane Trading from Frances Baard District who upon enrolment during 2019 was at cidb-level two and progressed to be registered on level six during January 2020. The department remains committed to ensure that through training and mentorship we change the lives and the livelihoods of women in this industry.
