Construction of new DSAC office accomodation Are progressing well

The Department of Roads and Public Works (DRPW) is managing the construction of office space and a new provincial library depot for Department of Sports, Arts and Culture (DSAC). This comes after the expiry of their previous lease for office accommodation. This project is taking place on the premises of the William Pescod Secondary School in Kimberley. 

The Department is responsible to provide office accommodation to all provincial departments in province as well as the construction of public amenities such as libraries on behalf of client departments. Through this construction project the a total of 20 job opportunities have been created which can be sub-dived into 14 general labourers, four plant operators, one site administrator and one health and safety representative. 

The project duration for the construction of the office space is estimated at twelve months. The construction of the library depot building is estimated at twenty four months. The total cost of the project amounts to R51 million. 

In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as the COVID-19 protocols, the contractor had to provide COVID-19 Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) for workers. The construction process was delayed by rainfall as it impacted directly on the excavation of the foundations and compacting of the building’s platforms. 

The Northern Cape Department of Sports, Arts and Culture is responsible for the promotion, protection and development of sport, diverse cultures in the province and in the same vein it serves as a catalysts in promoting economic empowerment, nation building and social cohesion.
