A NEW LOOK FOR THE MAYIBUYE MULTI-PURPOSE CENTRE IN GALESHEWE
We are looking forward to a revamped and refurbished Mayibuye Multi-Purpose Centre. This extensive upgrade is undertaken on behalf of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and it is designed to breathe new life into the facility, expanding its capacity to serve the community through modernised spaces, including an upgraded gymnasium, a dedicated dancing hall, and additional office space.
Progress on the Ground
Since the project commenced on March 24, 2025, construction teams have been working steadily to modernise the aging infrastructure. A significant focus has been placed on the building's envelope; teams have successfully removed and replaced old, leaking roof sheeting and are currently completing the installation of gutters to ensure robust storm water drainage.
Current technical milestones include:
· Plumbing and Electrical Works: Plumbing works have reached the 50% completion mark, while a comprehensive redoing of the electrical systems is currently underway.
· Structural Improvements: In the Arts Building, temporary partitioning has been replaced with solid wall construction on both floors to create more permanent, functional spaces.
· Specialised Maintenance: Mechanical work is currently in progress, alongside the removal of old aluminium fixtures and intensive waterproofing of the roof.
Empowering Local Labour and Small Businesses
True to the mandate of job creation, the Mayibuye project is serving as a vital engine for local economic development. The site currently employs 25 workers, including 12 skilled and 6 semi-skilled individuals. The Department remains committed to inclusivity, with 4 women and 5 youth (3 male, 2 female) currently part of the active workforce. To ensure safety and professional standards, all workers have undergone formal medicals and site induction training.
Furthermore, the project is a launchpad for local enterprises. In accordance with contractor development, four specialised subcontractors have been appointed to handle plumbing, painting, electrical, and mechanical works, providing these businesses with an opportunity to improve their CIDB-grading and gain high-level project experience. Once completed, the Mayibuye Multi-Purpose Centre will stand as a hub for arts, culture, and fitness, reflecting the Department’s dedication to maintaining and improving public infrastructure
